Why School Counseling?

As School Counselors, our primary responsibility to students is to promote academic, personal and social development.   We are advocates for your children and work collaboratively with parents, students, teachers and administrators in our school community to coordinate student services in the school. The Counselors provide students with assistance in: understanding self and developing a positive self-image, showing respect for the feelings of others, understanding the decision-making process, maintaining effective relationships with peers and adults, developing effective study skills, and being prepared to make the transition to high school.

Any student can request to meet with their counselor and students can also be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.

Some reasons why your child may seek out a counselor are:

Academic skills support

Career preparation/preparedness

School adjustment issues

Coping, problem-solving, decision-making concerns

Organizational, study and test-taking skills

Peer relationships and conflict resolution problems

Divorce, separation and family changes

Substance abuse awareness

Experiencing loss, death and grief

Multicultural/diversity awareness
